Hey everybody!
I just wanted to share this adorable picture with you to give you a smile on Halloween. It is not really celebrated in Ukraine yet. They are slowly picking up western holidays though. We are doing well. We are just making it through our first real illness with Elena, but God is good and he provided us a pediatric nurse and American physician that she could be seen by here. she had a high fever and a strange rash with a runny nose, but the fever and rash are already completely healed, and the nose is starting to dry up. Antibiotics are over the counter here, and very inexpensive, so that is a blessing, too, since we don’t have health insurance right now.
Brandon taught his final week at the graduated orphan’s trade school last week. The kids really enjoyed it, and learned a lot. Two of them are now seriously wanting to pursue working with computers; they are even beginning to study English so they will be more marketable. This is the whole reason brandon was asked to teach; more…
Hello all,
Fall is starting here in Kyiv. Though the weather has been so nice for the past week or so. The leaves are starting to change and it is going to get cold here any second I am sure of it. We are doing good, Brandon and Elena have been sick for some time now with a cold, but other than long nights its been ok. Emily has been having meetings with her counseling staff as some of them are beginning to return from trips and such. They are starting to plan for next year and Em is hoping to travel with them a little before we leave, they have some teaching and counseling arrangements lined up in other parts of Ukraine for the month of November. I have started teaching a hardware and software class at trade School for Orphans. Its where all orphans go after graduating the orphanage, usually at age 16 or so.
We did end up registering with the Ukrainian government this week. Actually the lawyer still has our passports and all. It was annoying to think that we have been here for 2 years without have to register and pay the fees and now less than 3 months before leaving we are forced to register. But it is done and we should not have any problems leaving the country now. If you didn’t read the last post a new law has been passed and it would have cost us between $300 and $450 to LEAVE Ukraine. Because of how long we have been here. Anyway a great friend offered to let us use her address to register so that was very helpful, otherwise we would have had to pay someone $100 to use their address.
Everything else is just everyday life here. Always working on someone’s computer or having people over for dinner and movies. We have 24 night every Sunday where about 10 of us get together and watch 4 episodes. We are only on season three but it’s nice to all get together and do something a little different. Em’s Bible study is still going well. They are about half way through and everyone is really enjoying it.
